Jheronimus Bosch 500

Campaign website to promote the Jheronimus Bosch exhibition at the Noordbrabants Museum. In 2016, many of the works of Jheronimus Bosch found their way back to the museum as part of the Jheronimus 500 festivities. The museum reached out to my employer to help out in creating a campaign website.

My Role

In the years leading up to this project I had been working on campaign websites before (like the DAF XF case on this website) – so I was the ideal candidate to help the museum. We started by sketching possible solutions. We’ve had quite a few sessions at the museum to finetune these ideas – after which the visual design was made and the website was developed.

My work included:

  • Writing a proposal
  • Sketching possible solutions
  • Webdesign
  • Campaign design (social images, content)

Why it was so special

A special project for my hometown. Though I wasn’t born in Den Bosch, I’ve lived there for almost 2 decades now. An event like Jheronimus Bosch 500 was an amazing local event to be part of.

Secondly, it was great because I can admire art. Being a designer means I often look at art to find out more about composition to name something. I can really admire people for being able to communicatie through their art.

Jheronimus Bosch is a great example of an artist who took things ‘outside-of-the-box’. In doing so he inspired many other artists. Being allowed to visit the exhibition before it was open to the general public was pretty awesome too!

What I’ve learned

Let your environment inspire you. Jheronimus Bosch very likely witnessed a big city fire in ‘s-Hertogenbosch when he was just a boy. Fire is often reflected in his work. So my take on that would be that even when you experience bad things – use them for inspiration.

We’ve worked closely with the museum on this one – which is always the best way. Working together with the client makes you understand their world. This project made me dive into the artist Jheronimus Bosch, but also how a museum works and what it takes to set up an exhibition like this one.

Again, because this was a project taking place in my hometown of Den Bosch, this was an inspiring project and made me feel even more connected to the city.
