At an early stage in my career I was found by friends of ED, a publisher known as Apress these days. They reached out if I could help review books, which then turned into design books, which turned into being an author. My work has also been published in various design magazines, such as Computer Arts.



My Role

My work has been shown in various magazines (Computer Arts, Digit, FRITS & more). On top of that I have been a technical reviewer and designer for friends of ED and later Apress. I have also contributed to the popular ‘The Adobe Illustrator Wow’ books. In total I have worked on just over 100 book titles and magazines.

Why it was so special

I would not have been where I am today without my peers, my mentors and everyone else who inspired and motivated me. So when I was offered a chance to share my knowledge I just had to give back.

Being found on a forum on Macromedia Director by friends of ED, I started as technical reviewer – a role where you review a book and see of there are flaws in the material. Soon I would be asked to design a whole range of books (Foundation series).

And finally it was special to author some books (Revolutionary Premiere Pro and New Masters of Photoshop v2) because it was a great way to thank my parents for encouraging me to follow my dreams. They obviously received some signed copies with a message of appreciation and love.

What I’ve learned

The main take-away for me has always been: help out. In the beginning of my career I was helped by great peers, amazing colleagues and inspiring mentors. Writing about and sharing my knowledge makes me feel I am giving back to a community that has supported me from the start.

It was also great for my knowledge of the English language. In the beginning I was not that sure about my English – but having worked at international agencies and these publications have made me more confident.

I am very thankful for having had the chance to write, publish and contribute.
